Heatons advise on one of the UK's first large solar energy parks

Heatons LLP has advised existing client SOLON SE on its appointment for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of one of the UK’s first large solar parks.

The 1.6MW solar park was commissioned by Rockspring Property Investment Managers, the company which is converting Westcott Venture Park in Buckinghamshire to run on solar energy.  Sitting on the site of a disused RAF airfield, and at 1.3km in length, it is one of the longest solar arrays in Europe.

The project was commissioned at the end of September, with Heatons advising on both the turnkey construction contract and the long term O&M agreement for the plant, as well as regulatory issues.

Construction partner James Flynn, who specialises in the renewable energy sector, advised SOLON SE on the scheme.

Said James:

“Having already advised SOLON SE on the first phase of Westcott Venture Park’s conversion to solar energy, we are delighted to have played a further part in this landmark project.

“At a time when many larger solar projects have been scrapped, this deal sends out the clear message that large European solar specialists like SOLON remain dedicated to helping UK businesses develop renewable energy projects.”

James added that Heatons continues to build on its service offering to the renewable energy sector:

“As a firm, Heatons has consistently demonstrated its commitment to the renewable energy industry. We are now at the cutting edge of this sector, having also advised on the country’s first project funded AD (anaerobic digestion) plant, as well as large scale solar and wind schemes, and we hope to continue to use our experience to help get these projects financed and built,” he concluded.
